ABOUT OUR PERFORMERS:
The PinkSlip Duo, “Best Folk Band” (Palm Beach and Broward New Times) is a late-50s to early-70s music close-harmony duo with a social conscience. Dr. Joan Friedenberg (keyboard, guitar, autoharp, ukulele) is a 30-year professor of education and author, and Bill Bowen (guitar, banjo, ukulele, harmonica) is a 35-year journalist, including 23 years at the Palm Beach Post. Both overlapped their previous careers with a penchant for performing music. They formed the PinkSlip Duo over 10 years ago and capitalized on their research and writing skills to write and produce multimedia musical lecture programs (“edu-tainment”) about their musical heroes, creating 15 different musical lectures (from Pete Seeger to Woodstock) which are performed at local theaters, playhouses, libraries, universities, and in private communities. PinkSlip’s repertoire includes folk, folk-rock, pop, protest, and dance numbers, as well as a few contemporary pop songs. PinkSlip also prides itself on its multicultural and world music selections sung in Spanish, Kreyol, Yiddish, Hebrew, Ladino, and French (so far!). What you should expect from a PinkSlip performance: familiarity with most songs (but hearing something new, too), variety (in genre, mood, instruments and cultures) and learning socially relevant facts about the songs.
